  • A home sleep study is a painless way to monitor sleep and breathing patterns within the comfort of your own home, allowing us to diagnose sleep disorders without going in to hospital.

  • We provide specialised hospital-grade equipment that monitors various aspects of your child’s sleep, including breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels, and brain waves. The data is collected overnight and analysed by our sleep specialists.

  • Absolutely! The equipment we use is child-friendly, and the entire process is designed to ensure your child's comfort and safety throughout the night.

  • You can expect to receive the results of the sleep study within 7 days. A follow-up telehealth consultation will be scheduled to discuss the findings and recommend any necessary treatment.

  • Have your GP or specialist send a referral to us an online referral or via email contact@prana-paediatricsleepservice.com.au

  • Yes. In order to access the medicare rebate for the consults with the clinician, please bring a referral from your GP or specialist.

    GP’s are able to write referrals that are valid for 12 months.

  • Unfortunately private health funds do not cover the cost of outpatient services and home based sleep studies in children.

    As such, there will be an out-of-pocket fee for the sleep study.

FAQs for Healthcare Providers

  • Please send referrals to Prana Paediatric Sleep Services, based at Offspring Health in Hawthorn.

    Use the online form in “Refer My Patient” on the top banner of this website or alternatively, forward a pdf copy to contact@prana-paediatricsleepservice.com.au

  • Within 1-2 business days of receipt of the referral. A clinic review date will be promptly allocated.

    At Prana, we find that children require at least a week to prepare themselves for having a sleep study. We offer same-day sleep studies in exceptional circumstances.

  • All patients will be offered a telehealth consult to review the result of their sleep study. Our focus is providing evidence based treatment strategies and also empowering young people and their parents to achieve the best outcomes.

    A copy of the sleep study report and all clinic letters will be shared with the referring clinician.

  • If there are concerns of obstructive sleep apnoea or other sleep related issues likely to be identified on a study, a home based sleep study may be offered to the patient.

  • We routinely perform sleep studies on children aged 6 - 18 years. However some children as young as 4 years may be considered under special circumstances only.

  • Yes. Please ensure that this is clearly documented on the referral as we may provide some equipment for desensitisation as well as social stories before the study.

    However, if there are significant co-morbidities including challenging behaviours, this may warrant a referral to Monash Children’s Hospital for an in-lab hospital sleep study.
